Jérôme Hamelin and Kim Milferstedt at the LBE co-organized the 42nd French-Korean Frontier Scientists Workshop in Narbonne, from November 23 to 25, 2022.

This event was part of a series of scientific meetings funded by the KAST (Korean Academy of Science and Technology) to promote international collaborations.
A previous workshop was held in November 2020 by videoconference due to the pandemic, and this year was an opportunity to renew long-standing contacts between the LBE and researchers from various Korean scientific research institutions, including Inha University (Incheon), Korean Advanced Institute of Science & Technology - KAIST (Daejeon), Sogang University (Seoul) and Yonsei University (Seoul).
The topics covered various processes used in environmental biotechnology, including anaerobic digestion, dark fermentation, coupled dark fermentation and anaerobic digestion, bioelectrochemical systems, membrane bioreactors, reed beds, use of purple phototrophic bacteria or photogranules. Many of the technologies presented had the combined objectives of pollution treatment and recovery of molecules of interest (volatile fatty acids, bioplastics, pigments).
