Résumé des travaux

I will talk about the fundamental research I did on bioenergetic systems in microalgae before I arrived at INRAE as chargé de recherche so you have an idea where I come from. Then I will elaborate on my work at the LBE on the coupling between dark fermentation and microalgae cultivation. I discuss the importance of the culture conditions in the physiology of microalgae (ecophysiology) but also the role that bacteria can have in consortia with microalgae. Furthermore I will highlight some of the metabolic mechanism that underly the oberved physiology in microalgae that are growing on dark fermentation metabolites (acetate & butyrate). In recent years I have started to focus more on bioprocess development and microalgae biomass valorization, which can make specific demands on the cultivation process. The ultimate goal of my research is to bring a fundamental component to bioprocess development in order to try to better explain, predict and control microalgal physiology and outcomes of microalgae based bioprocesses. During my HDR defense I will address where I am at the moment in this respect and where I think this should go in the coming years.
